Balmy day here in Minneapolis

It's 46 degrees here and awesome, so Terri and I ran the lakes downtown today. It was so nice to be able to take our gloves off and not have our fingers turn black and fall off from frostbite.
We were slow, though. Terri has the excuse that she hasn't run 10 miles since Zurich Ironman (June), but I have no such excuse. My excuse for being slow is that I have gained weight. Like 10 pounds. As of this morning I am 165 pounds of holiday drinking and eating everything in sight (which actually started before the holidays). I wonder if I can lose that before the Phoenix Rock-n-Roll marathon on Sunday. ;-) My heart rate wasn't really high or anything, there is just more of me to lug along and it's slow-going. Arghhhh. I started a food journal today. I've never been much of a dieter so this in itself is depressing.

The kids go back to school tomorrow, which is kind of sad, too. I loved having them around, and we had a really great vacation in Hawaii, and we have snow forts and snowmen in the front yard, and Bobby even tried cross-country skiing. But tomorrow it's back to the old schedule. The dreadmill of the school year. Arghhhh.

On the bright side, I will at least be able to get the house in shape. There is junk everywhere. All the Christmas stuff is still up, and the kids drop all their toys or books or papers or plates - really everything - just laying around for me to pick up. All that little miscellaneous stuff from the pockets of everybody's luggage and carry-ons is laying around, too. I think that may be why I'm in such a bad mood today. The clutter brings me down. In a couple days (like by tomorrow 3pm) hopefully everything will be picked up and put away and I'll perk up. If I've lost the 10 pounds by tomorrow that should help, too.

;-)

Yes, I know what you mean. The days of coming home from work to just hang out and play with the kids (ie, no homework) have come to an end. The schoolday routine now rules the day. Ugh.

Good luck in Phoenix.

Stay tuned...

Oh Jenny Jenny... I'll start a food journal too :) It will probably gross me out to actually see what I am eating. We can compare our journals when we do our spins... I'm sure that 10lbs will be off by tomorrow.

If you figure out how to lose that 10 pounds over night be sure to blog about it!

My daughter just headed back for school and for a second I thought "good - she's a slob" but then I remembered that she won't be here :-(

I am a lifetime weight watchers member and I always felt the writing down of food was effective. I could be better at it..

Was it that nice outside??

Man, I was sleeping. I had to work 28 out of the last 36 hours on nights so I was slept til 3 pm.

Not to be dismissive of your feelings, but you have the right lifestyle and are very active. The weight will just naturally come down.

I can't wait til my miles are up a little more, then I can join you on a long run sometime.

P.S. I have 3 Mercy Me songs and love them. Which album did you get? "All that is within me"?

ah, now I don't feel so bad for just having taken the christmas tree out yesterday. Only did that because we planned to have real grown-up company guests over.

...never mind my extra lumps - a little less butter and a little more vegetables in my servings might do something about that. Heh.

Happy new years! Did you stay at the Hyatt in Poipu? We were there years ago and your pictures looked familiar.

i would kill for 165.

KILL. FOR. IT.

at the very least I would eat my body weight in fudge for it.

I'm trying to get to 165, but I would like to get lower, some day.

If you're interested in a good on-line food journal, check out www.sparkpeople.com.

Good luck on Sunday.

But see, I used to be 165 pounds and you're about twice as tall as I am. You're freaking HUGE!

HAHAHAHAHA.

I'm sure you'll be in top form for eating and watching whales this summer in Washington State.

Welcome home and welcome back to the routine...glad the weather cooperated for your return.
But you are headed here in a few days-right? Weather should warm up by then, and you should be able to enjoy some sun here!

IronJenny,

I cut my training short last night b/c I want to eat the last slice of rum cake :).

Those post holiday junk food is evil. I am giving all of them away so i won't be tempted.

10lbs seems to be the 'average' weight gain of bloggers I read :)

Sure it'll come off quickly. I was still in training for a 5th Jan half ironman and I still put on about 7lbs :(

Good luck with the rest of your trianing

Mike
