Busy weekend!

Friday we had the prelims for the kids' Western League Championships meet. Bobby and Ally both qualified for the next days' consolation finals, so we had another full day ahead of us on Saturday. The meet was held at Bear Path Country Club - who put on an awesome meet. They really made the kids feel special - they even had a 30-minute airplane flyover with a towed banner during the warm-up that said "good luck swimmers!" Our team, GoldenValley/Medina Country Club, raced hard and came in 4th place overall. I got to participate in the Very Hotly Contested Parent Relay. We won it that last 3 years, but this year we were JUST out-touched at the very end by 4 parents from the Bear Path team. Oh well, there's time to gear up for next year ;-). It's really cute to hear all the kids yelling, "go Mom! Go Dad!"

Here's Bobby (right) with his friend Peter displaying their hardware from the medley relay.

And here's Ally after finishing in 8th place in the 25m 6-and-under butterfly.

So cute! They had a really fun season of summer-league swim team. The fact that swim team is over is a reminder that the summer is winding down and school will be starting in only 5 more weeks. :-(

Before the meet, I swam in a relay across Lake Minnetonka with IronGirlNyhus and TriNick. The total distance was 5 miles, so we each swam one leg and paddled the canoe for two legs.
Here we are at the start...

... and at the finish! It took us 2 hours and 32 minutes. (Laura, were you goggles tight enough? ;-) just wondering - looks like it's gonna leave a mark!!)

Sunday I did the Chisago Lakes Half Iron-Distance.
I got to meet Trimom! She is just as sweet in person as she is on her blog. She did awesome and finished feeling good despite the near 90 degree temperature. I got under 6 hours for the first time ever and ended up getting a plaque for third place for my age group, and Trimom got one for the Athena division, too! I didn't have my camera at Chisago, but Trimom and Nick did, so maybe I will post pics in a day or two.

congrats to the kids...that's great. Our kids just started swimming lessons, so we have high hopes for them, but as long as they are having fun that's really what it's all about.

My goggles always leave a mark and I tend to forget about the mark and wonder why I get strange looks after swim practise.

Congratulations on an awesome week for both you and your children.

P.S. Wasn't Lake Minnetonka the lake in Prince's movie Purple Rain?

hi, jenny - i did the chisago sprint yesterday, and i think i saw you run out of the swim while i was waiting in the line of endless waves! :) i realize that sounds a little stalkerish? is it more stalkerish to find the triathlete whose blog you read and say, "hey, I recognize you from the internet," or to NOT find the triathlete in person, but then post on her blog the next day that you THINK you spotted her in person??

hmmm. blog etiquette is kind of complicated.

regardless, congrats on the speedy finish!

Congratulations on your great race! I'm impressed you could manage that just weeks after an IM but then again - you are a MASHEEN! You are really amazing. Seriously - I am so hoping some of that comes my way in September!

oh and congrats to the kids, too. I do miss those swim meets. My son't favorite award ever was a 'horse ribbon' he and his relay team got when they set a record in the 200 yd free relay.

kc - if you check back here, you need to update your proifle settings... I can't link to you, so I don't know who you are or where your blog is!
But thanks for always leaving such nice posts.

oops! thanks for the tip! i had forgotten that i disabled my profile because i also have a blog that i use for teaching (i teach english at a west metro h.s.), and i was paranoid about my students being able to find my personal site. BUT, i think blogger added some features that fix that problem. :)

Great race on Sunday. Congrats! I saw you getting lubed up in sunscreen on the run and then again when you crossed the finish line. Too bad we didn't have a chance to talk.

Hey Jenny! Man, you had one busy weekend! Kudos to the kids on a great summer season. Next year that parent relay is all yours! It was nice to finally meet you on Sunday, and look forward to many more adventures. Great race!

oh gosh that is funny. Some people, perhaps myself included would devote three days to describing racing a half ironman, you just sort of throw it out there as matter of fact thing at the end of your post.

that is living life right there

Aw.. You'll get them next year! :)

Goggle marks are bad, but not as bad as swim mask marks - I look like a monkey after swimming...

Thanks for all the pix!
